While living in Chicago, I often felt homesick and found solace in Little India on Devon Avenue, a South Asian immigrant neighborhood. During one visit, I met Farida, a retail seller from Lucknow, India, who agreed to an interview about her experience as a diaspora in the US. When I revisited her, she was busy with a customer but decided to interview if I did it right away. During the interview, the customer and the shopkeeper were bargaining over prices. The customer, a white woman, revealed that her father had passed away and asked her to take some of his ashes to India and Pakistan. The shopkeeper, Farida, is Indian and cannot go to Pakistan, and I, being from Pakistan, cannot go to India, due to border restriction. It's a touching situation as a third person plans to bury her father in both locations, showing her love for both countries.
