Riding the Brown Line to Kedzie, I arrived in a vibrant neighborhood where Middle Eastern voices echoed, blending old-world charm with Chicago’s lively pulse. I met a Syrian barber who expressed his patriotism for the United States as an American citizen and his sadness for his home country, Syria. Our conversation was a learning moment for me. I had the choice to return to my home country, but he didn't; his country was destroyed and he had no one to return to. This experience highlighted the similarities and differences among immigrants in the United States.
